Program Description

The program aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skill and tools in Western and Asian musical cultures and genres to enable them to conceptualize, create and arrange music for traditional and contemporary forms of artistic expression, such as concerts, recordings, films, commercials and video. The main purpose of the program is to professionalize the production aspect of the Philippine music industry and to generate a new standard of musical expression that is truer to the national sensibility while maintaining international relevance and competitiveness.

Goals

By the end of the course, the student is expected to:

  • Be grounded extensively in the basic music fundamentals of theory, harmony, dictation and solfeggio, as well as keyboard skills and the most critical music history and literature courses;
  • Have knowledge of the musicial trichotomy composed of an arranging-composition tranche, a support knowledge tranche and a tools-technology tranche, all of which work together towards the creation of an all-around competency in professional music that combines the best of academic and practical knowledge; and
  • Have done work leading towards innovative professional musical practice.

Job Opportunities

Interest in music production has been increasing over the years. Graduates of the Bachelor of Arts, Major in Technical Theater graduates can work as:

  • Composers;
  • Arrangers;
  • Songwriters;
  • Scorers;
  • Recording technicians;
  • Sound technologists;
  • Directors of musical-related institutions and groups; and
  • Educators, among others.
